An unprecedented event where three of Japan's top baristas and roasters boarded one car of the "Nozomi 343" traveling from Tokyo Station to Kyoto Station, offering top-class specialty coffee. Passengers were able to enjoy premium coffee along with this rare experience while traveling on the Shinkansen.
Featured Baristas and Roasters:
- Takayuki Ishitani (3-time Japan Barista Championship winner)
- Yuya Kosakada (Raw Sugar Roast)
- Ippei Nishio (Direct Coffee Kyoto)
Panama Geisha Coffees Provided
Brisa & Tierra, in collaboration with CROWD ROASTER, provided the following two carefully selected Panama Geisha coffees:
La Huella Geisha
This coffee, served by roaster Yuya Kosakada, is an extremely rare lot that only two buyers in the world were able to purchase. These beans, personally produced by farm owner Pedro Moss, have won the Golden Folk award at the British Great Taste Award, also known as the "Oscar of Food."
Lot Information: La Huella Geisha Natural N97 Anaerobic Lot 3
"Even when freshly roasted, I could feel the amazing quality of these beans. I put my heart and soul into roasting them for this event, so I hope everyone looks forward to tasting them. I'll make sure they're properly aged by the day of the event. I'm most excited to see how much potential they'll show!"
- Roaster Yuya Kosakada
Abu Geisha
This coffee, used by barista Takayuki Ishitani, is a special lot used in global coffee competitions. Mr. Ishitani served this bean as a milk beverage, enhancing its distinctive flavor.
Lot Information: Abu Geisha Natural Double Phase Submerged Anaerobic GN-1590
"Using an espresso machine inside a moving Shinkansen was itself a first-time attempt. The coffee was Panama's 'Abu Geisha.' It's from a farm that produces world-top quality coffee chosen by many baristas in competitions."
- Barista Takayuki Ishitani
Event Results
The Panama Geisha coffees served in the unique environment of a moving Shinkansen received high praise from participants. Yusuke Hirashima from JR Tokai commented, "The rich aroma unlike anything I've tasted before changes in both taste and fragrance depending on the temperature and timing. For someone like me who had only drunk ordinary coffee, it was a shocking encounter."
During the approximately 2-hour journey from Tokyo to Kyoto, passengers enjoyed four types of specialty coffee and had valuable time to deepen their understanding of coffee through dialogue with the baristas.
We at Brisa & Tierra hope to continue sharing the appeal of Panama specialty coffee with many people through special events like this in the future.
